Careers at Hampden Vets
Placements and work experience at Hampden
We are happy to accommodate students where possible – if you’re interested in gaining experience at one of our practices, please contact becky.gilkerson@hampdenvets.co.uk.
University EMS placements
We are happy to participate in the development of the next generation of veterinary surgeons through the university EMS placement scheme.
We can accommodate one student in each of our departments at any one time: small animal, equine and farm. Due to the demand for placements these are normally restricted to a maximum of two weeks.
There may be times when the practice is unable to take students, and certain periods of the year will be quieter and hence not as productive for placements, such as summer for farm work.
You will need to arrange your own accommodation locally and have your own means of transport, something which is especially for farm and equine placements, where you may need to travel to meet the vet at the start of the working day.
Work experience for school students
We are happy to help prospective vets and nurses with work experience prior to applying to veterinary college.
Due to the demand for places we can only provide work experience to those students at the end of Year 11 and above.
Work experience placements are for one week per student, Monday to Friday, at our small animal veterinary hospital only – we are unable to take work experience in our equine or farm departments.
We can only host one student at a time, and priority is given to those attending local secondary schools in Aylesbury.
As the amount of school holiday is limited, and due to the number of students wanting work experience with us, we ask for schools to be flexible in allowing students time off during term time if possible.
Please note that school holiday placements are normally booked over six months in advance.
